The records are divided into the following categories: Popular music created in Hawaii and the mainland from the vinyl age of the 40’s-80’s and beyond (including genres such as religious, comedy and movies/television shows), foreign albums released outside the United States, Surf, Exotica, and last but not least the South Seas (Hawaii, Polynesia, Tahiti, Fiji, Maori, etc.) (

Hawaiian Music Museum history and facts:

Did you know that in 1985, a group of famous Hawaiian musicians recorded a companion piece to the famous fundraiser song We Are The World? Titled “Hawaii for Africa – The Way Of Love”, the composition was led by the legendary Henry Kapono and also featured such talents as Marlene Sai, Robert Cazimero, and Melveen Leed among many others. Did you know that surf culture, surf music and surf rock did not originate in California but instead in Hawaii? And while the pioneer of surf rock is considered to be Dick Dale it was actually Leni Okehu and his Surfboarders…or as its more apt to say Billy Mure and his Surfboarders.
